The mission of the Davenport House Museum is to preserve and interpret the American Federal-style house, and the artifacts within, built by master builder Isaiah Davenport for his household with an emphasis on the years 1820-27, in order to educate, enrich and inspire our visitors and the community, as well as recognize the historical role of the house in the founding of Historic Savannah Foundation.
Located along Georgia’s beautiful coastal region, Bryan County has become one of the fastest growing counties in the State. Whether you desire backyard proximity to one of the many tidal creeks and rivers located in our County, or if you are seeking the hometown appeal of our incorporated municipalities of Richmond Hill and Pembroke, Bryan County is sure to make you feel at peace and at home. Formed in 1793, Bryan County has experienced a rich history with Fort McAllister Historic Park, and the former summer estate of automobile titan, Henry Ford, located within its borders.
Just across the banks of Ogeechee River, the County’s eastern border, Historic Downtown Savannah and Savannah International Airport is just merely minutes away. Bryan County’s transportation infrastructure boasts major roadways such as Interstate 95 and Interstate 16, along with other State Highways. The area is filled with the sense of community pride and patriotism, as it is also home to Fort Stewart Military Reservation. Come experience life with us in Bryan County.
The location of Bryan County is unique in that we are the only county in Georgia to be separated by a military base. Fort Stewart intersects with our county to create its northern and southern ends. The closest interstate on the northern end of Bryan County, approximately 11 miles from Pembroke, is I-16. This gives quick, easy access for traveling west to Atlanta or east to Savannah. On the southern end, the closest interstate, located a few miles from Richmond Hill, is I-95. Again, giving quick easy access for traveling south to Jacksonville or north to Hilton Head, with historic downtown Savannah just minutes away.
Bryan County is an ever growing and vibrant community and from 2010 through 2015 was the 27 fastest growing County in the nation with a population increase of over 16 percent. Bryan County also boosts a median household income well above the Georgia and national average.
This can be attributed to the wonderful climate of the area, vibrant economy of Coastal Georgia, and the excellence of our educational opportunities located within the County.
Bryan County’s immediate proximity to Savannah, the region’s economic heart, helps to make our County the perfect place to settle for those looking for opportunity and cultural fulfillment. With no sign of growth slowing down, Bryan County pledges to be prepared for the growth and committed to preserving what makes our County so desirable to current citizens and future residents.

Historic Savannah Foundation saves buildings, places and stories that define Savannah’s past, present, and future. Following its formation in 1955, HSF started a Revolving Fund to save endangered historic properties, now totaling nearly 370 buildings throughout several of Savannah’s historic districts. HSF has grown into one of the most respected local preservation organizations in the country — emphasizing not only the protection of individual historic buildings but also the revitalization of blighted neighborhoods. HSF demonstrates the cultural, social and economic benefits of preservation as good public policy by proving that preservation and progress go hand-in-hand.
