ASBURY MEMORIAL AND WESLEY OAK CHURCHES TO HOST DR. ANNETTE LAING LECTURES – OCT. 24 & OCT. 25

SAVANNAH, GA – OCTOBER 16, 2023 – Asbury Memorial Church and Wesley Oak Church will host Dr. Annette Laing for a special historic presentation ‘George Whitefield, Superstar!…Oh, And John Wesley, Too’ at 6:30 pm at Asbury Memorial Church on Tuesday, Oct 24 and 12 noon at Wesley Oak Church on Wednesday, Oct 25. Dr. Annette Laing, noted historian and entertainer, will bring her one-woman storytelling skills to the local churches and present stories about George Whitefield and John Wesley in relation to Savannah, in a way that historical stories are rarely told. Laing is a Historian, Author, and Public Speaker dedicated to making history fun by using humor, storytelling and fact. ‘Non-Boring History’, a bestselling Substack newsletter is for adults who don’t like history. 

George Whitefield and John Wesley are well-known names in Savannah history and culture. Whitefield and Wesley influenced American Christianity in the eighteenth century and all the way to the present day. Both are known to be products of a fast-changing time in the world, and of Savannah at the time of its birth. 

“We are so excited to host Dr. Annette Laing at our churches, as this is a wonderful way for our community to learn some local history in a new and exciting way,” said Reverend Billy Hester. “We invite anyone and everyone to come to this exciting presentation!”  

British native Dr. Annette Laing is a former professor at Georgia Southern University, where she was a faculty member in history and African Studies, before becoming a missionary for history. For twenty years, Annette has brought her “Non-Boring History” presentations for children and families to school and museum audiences across the country, and throughout Georgia. Her work has been profiled by the Associated Press.
