SAVANNAH VOICE FESTIVAL PREMIERED THE ELEANORS

On Jan. 3, the Savannah VOICE Festival premiered their newest original opera, “The Eleanors.” The story centers around three indomitable ladies holding down the home front during World War II with humor, heart, the support of good friends … and a nightly scoop of Leopolds ice cream. This swing and American Songbook-infused operatic score was written by composer-in-residence Jodi Goble and a libretto co-written by Savannah VOICE Festival’s interim Artistic Director Michael Ching.

TELFAIR MUSEUMS HOSTED ITS PULSE FESTIVAL

Telfair’s 2025 PULSE Festival included several recent artist projects that have emerged on the local scene to address our relationship with technology, from artists using AI tools to those finding new inspiration in earlier tech from animated GIFs to LEDs. Works included Will Penny’s Small Talk which crosses a kitsch electronic toy with AI that encourages visitors to interact.

The group project, Posthumanism, presented a cyberpunk aesthetic of tubes, wires, and screens, and incorporated the viewer’s image into AI-generated texts. Katie Hagen’s Glow is an LED sculpture that referenced weaving, while Bryce Winters’ A Lossy Existence featured a series of GIFs which pose questions about human experience.
